 Conception Bay South is a town in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. The town is commonly referred to as CBS. The population in 2006 was 21,966 which makes the town the third largest population centre in our province behind the cities of Mount Pearl and St. John's. The community corresponds largely, but not exactly, to the boundaries of the electoral district of the same name.
The town is located on the southern shore of Conception Bay on the Avalon Peninsula of our island of Newfoundland. It's approximately 20 kilometres southwest of the provincial capital, St. John's. As such, the town is part of the the Metro Area and most residents are employed in the nearby cities of St. John's, Paradise or Mount Pearl.
The town was formed in 1973 through the amalgamation of nine communities: Chamberlains, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Lawrence Pond, Long Pond, Manuels, Seal Cove, Topsail and Upper Gullies.
